Royston Town boss accepting of Josh Castiglione's decision to leave club for National South outfit

Royston Town manager Steve Castle is understanding of Josh Castiglione’s decision to leave the club following two curtailed seasons. The Southern Premier Central side have announced the midfielder’s departure from the Step Three club, who is set to join a National South outfit.

The Crows have been unable to secure promotion to that level over the past two seasons, with consecutive campaigns having been curtailed prematurely. With the pandemic having had a significant impact on non-league football, Castiglione has taken the opportunity of playing his football at a higher level.

Castiglione is the latest of a number of players who have moved onto higher levels from the Crows in recent seasons.

Gus Scott-Morriss has also joined Hemel Hempstead Town, whilst the likes of Claudio Ofosu, Josh Oyinsan and Matt Bateman have also recently moved to higher leagues from the Crows. The club’s recruitment strategy has been to sign younger players who have the potential to progress up the leagues, which has been evident to date.

Following the departure, Castle is hopeful that more players from last season’s squad won’t follow suit.

With the Crows aiming to push for promotion, as they have done in recent seasons, the manager feels his club can offer something that some National South sides won’t be able to.
