With the aim to showcase the work of the talented craftswomen at the Princess Diya Kumari Foundation to a global audience, Princess Gauravi Kumari of Jaipur and French designer, Claire Deroo recently launched their label The PDKF (Princess Diya Kumari Foundation) Store. A mix of trendy and traditional, the store’s collection is an amalgamation between the famous Rajasthani patterns and contemporary styles. We caught up with the duo to talk about their inspiration behind the collection, fashion and much more.
How will the PDKF store benefit the women in the organisation?
The PDKF Store strives to provide a path for a better future for disadvantaged women and girls in Rajasthan who face cultural, social and economic barriers. There is a need for collective action to improve the lives of women who are trapped in a cycle of poverty and have been denied an education due to early marriage or financial constraints of their families. The Foundation provides skill building to create sustainable livelihoods, facilitates health programs and supports education for girls.
What was the inspiration behind the collection?
The PDKF Store is a contemporary adaptation of traditional Rajasthani crafts. A marriage between European fashion and Indians techniques
Are there any fashion trends you like and you've incorporated in the stores collection?
We love total looks! For example, a bucket hat in the same fabric as the dress you wear, and a matching bag too!
