Royston Town boss accepting of Josh Castiglione's decision to leave club for National South outfit

Royston Town manager Steve Castle is understanding of Josh Castiglione’s decision to leave the club following two curtailed seasons.

The Southern Premier Central side have announced the midfielder’s departure from the Step Three club, who is set to join a National South outfit.

The Crows have been unable to secure promotion to that level over the past two seasons, with consecutive campaigns having been curtailed prematurely.

With the pandemic having had a significant impact on non-league football, Castiglione has taken the opportunity of playing his football at a higher level.

“Josh is going to be a massive loss. He’s a very talented lad,” Castle said.

“He has made me aware of his feelings of wanting to play at a higher level. He, like me, was desperate to be able to do it with Royston Town.

“Obviously because of Covid and the two years have basically been null and voided, he feels that he can’t devote another year to this level.

“He’s got the opportunity to go and play at a higher level, which you wouldn’t begrudge anyone.

“I’d like to say I’m a persuasive type of person, but you can’t hide away from the facts. [Players] have lost two years, and have suddenly got two years less on their careers.

“If lads want to play as high as possible, which they all should want to, it’s an understandable situation.”
